June 2018 Income Report – Second Month of Blogging

June is officially over and I’m back with my second income report. I can’t wait to share the results! It was such a big and exciting month for the blog, and my expectations were completely blown away. I exceeded my pageview goal ten times over and learned a lot about what’s actually possible with my little blog.

I spent most of the month in Rwanda for school, so I didn’t have as much time as I normally would to focus on the blog. With the time I had, I mainly focused on using Pinterest to grow my traffic, and it worked!

June 2018 Goals

1. 100 pageviews

Success!!!: 1,171 (up from 134 last month)

I cannot tell you how excited I am about reaching more than 1,000 pageviews last month! I didn’t think it was even remotely possible to get that many pageviews with how little effort I put into my blog in June.

The post that went mini-mini-viral in May went mini-viral last month and drove a TON of traffic to my little blog. While the pageviews are starting to die down again, I now know beyond a shadow of a doubt that I can get some major traffic to my blog with just a little more effort.

2. 75 followers on Pinterest

Fail: 67 (up from 31 last month)

While I didn’t quite make it to 75, it was fairly close. However, the number of viewers I got on Pinterest this month proves that followers aren’t an accurate measure of reach on Pinterest. I’ve seen many accounts with three or four times the number of followers, but still less viewers. Because of that, I’m going stop listing Pinterest followers as a monthly goal.

3. Write 3 blog posts

Success!: 3 posts (down from 9 last month)

Here are the posts I wrote this month:

  1. May 2018 Income Report – My First Month of Blogging!
  2. How I Failed at Creating a Morning Routine
  3. How to Make Your Commute More Productive
4. Set up a Facebook account

This is technically a success because I created the account on the 29th, but I didn’t really set it up until July 3rd. If you want to follow the blog’s brand new Facebook page, you can check it out here.

My Blog Goals for July 2018

1. 3,000 pageviews

This goal is crazy scary for me. I know that there was a dramatic increase in traffic at the end of last month, but it’s already begun to die down again. In order to meet this month’s goal, the blog will need to get an average of 100 pageviews a day, and it’s currently averaging 60.

This month, I want to focus on diversifying my pageviews, since 75% of my pageviews last month were from the same post. It’s my hope that, as I add more content, traffic will start to increase more steadily.

I also want to start using Tailwind more regularly. In the middle of June, I was invited to join Tailwind Tribes (which is free), and, so far, it’s increased my potential Pinterest reach by over 20,000 impressions with very minimal effort. I want to spend some time this month exploring Tailwind’s other functionalities and see how much it boosts my blog traffic.

2. Write 8 blog posts

Despite my traffic spiking dramatically last month, I have a feeling it’s going to settle down to a fairly low number again because there isn’t enough content on the site. This month, my goal is to write (and publish) 8 posts. This will definitely be a challenge, since I’m also writing a lot for grad school right now, but I’m dedicated to getting more helpful content up on the blog.

One of my personal growth goals this month is to create a morning routine (again), which will hopefully give me a little more time to work on writing content.

3. Get 10 email subscribers

The plan this month is to really focus on getting people to subscribe to my email list.

Last month, despite getting over 1,000 pageviews, only one person signed up for my email list (shout out to that awesome person!).

There are a couple of factors that led to only one person subscribing: (1) I didn’t have a sign-up form on my site until halfway through the traffic spike and (2) I didn’t offer a clear incentive for signing up. Now that I have the sign-up form, I need to work on creating an opt-in freebie that will encourage people to subscribe.

If you’d like to be one of the first people on my email list, you can sign up below. It will seriously make me so happy!

4. Make 1 affiliate sale

I’m going to start monetizing this month! Woo! Now that my traffic is up a little, I think it’s a good time to start working on monetization. I’m not going to focus on it too much, but the plan is to sign up for a few affiliate programs and, hopefully, make my first blog income. (So exciting!)

June 2018 Traffic

Pageviews: 1,171
Pinterest Followers: 67
Pinterest Viewers: 60,296
Email Subscribers: 1

All I have to say is… group boards and Tailwind Tribes. I was finally accepted to a few Pinterest group boards and two Tribes in mid-June and within a few days my pageviews had increased 60 times over.

Here’s a snapshot of my Pinterest viewers for June. You can see where my traffic took off after joining the group boards and Tailwind Tribes.

June 2018 Income

Income: $0

I still haven’t worked on monetizing the blog yet, part of which is because I’ve decided not to go the easy route for monetizing.

If you’re wondering why you don’t see any ads on the blog, it’s because I’m going to keep the blog ad-free. There is nothing more annoying than trying to read a post and having a bunch of ads pop up everywhere. So, while ads are easy money, I plan on monetizing through affiliate marketing and (eventually) selling my own products, instead.

June 2018 Expenses

Expenses: $0

The only expense I’ve had for the blog so far is what I paid for hosting with Bluehost, which is really the only expense you need to start a blog. If you haven’t started your blog yet, you can sign up through my link and get a free domain.

This month, I’m also thinking about purchasing Carly’s Pinteresting Strategies ebook, because I’ve heard amazing things, but I’m also wary of putting any more money into the blog until I’ve made a little income. If you’ve bought Pinteresting Strategies, send me an email and let me know what you thought. I’d love to hear your opinion on whether or not it helped your blog’s traffic!

One Last Note

I am so excited for everything that July holds for the blog. I think it’s going to be a great month! Hopefully, I’ll be back for July’s income report with a little income to report.

Overall, I’m really happy with how my second month of blogging went. Here’s to an even better third month! Cheers!

How I Got 1,000 Pageviews in My Second Month of Blogging

  • Sarah

I am trying to get my blog to 1,000 pageviews a month and monetize it. Currently, it’s at 700 pageviews. I have recently joined Tailwind and using snartloop but will try Tailwind Tribes soonest possible.

  • Ana

These posts are so helpful. I love that you share your goals AND your results, and aren’t afraid to be honest when you didn’t meet your expectations. It gives you such a personable vibe! And thanks for giving me an idea of what good blogging goals even look like!
